Petticoat

A petticoat or underskirt is an article of clothing, a type of undergarment worn under a skirt or a dress. In both historical and modern contexts, petticoat refers to skirt-like undergarments worn for warmth or to give the skirt or dress the desired fashionable shape. Nowadays is mostly used for wedding dresses.  The primary reason to wear a slip under your wedding gown is to give the dress the shape or fullness it's supposed to have. It also helps prevent the "bridal wedgie", that dip of fabric between your legs when you walk down the aisle.

Petticoats can be very full or barely more substantial than a slip, thus offering a range of volume and definition to your gown. Petticoats are typically used for slim A-line wedding dresses and gowns with drop waists. Hoop skirts are generally made of cotton and hold enclosed rings within their stitches. These are typically reserved for more dramatic A-line gowns, ballgowns, or fit-and-flare wedding dresses.

There are various types of petticoats which will match each design and material. For example we will have the:

-A-line petticoat which suits the wedding dress with tight waist part and puffy skirt

- One hoop narrow mermaid petticoat suits a slim mermaid dress

-Two hoops petticoat suit small A-line dresses

- Train petticoat suits A-line dresses with a small train

-Six hoops petticoat suits a ball gown

Different effects can be achieved by varying the number of layers a petticoat has.

The right petticoat can make all the difference to the wedding dress.
